They make the perfect finishing touch to any mermaid’s costume of course, but can be used to edge your flower borders or for the more adventurous try making a mobile or adding them to an old frame to create your very own coastal mirror. They can also be used as baking shells and what better way to serve up scallops than in the shell itself. Add some scallops with some of your favourite ingredients, breadcrumbs, butter, garlic, lime juice and pop in the oven for 15 to 20 mins at gas mark 9, delicious. Don’t forget to clean the shells before use and keep them afterwards as they can be reused over and over again. Scallops or Pectinidae are a very large family of several hundred species of mostly colourful and attractive shells. They are free-swimming and move by flapping their valves together, butterfly-like.
